Before the year closes, we’re opening the archive.
The Making Of: 2026 is COTAVATION’s annual editorial collection, bringing together the people, projects and creative journeys we’ve had the privilege of documenting. Throughout November and December, we’ll release individual stories here in the Journal, looking back at the work while making room for what lies ahead.
Behind the finished work
A photograph, a song or a night on stage captures a moment. Behind it are the rehearsals, conversations, decisions and collaborators that helped bring it into being. This collection returns to those moments through editorial profiles, archival photography and reflections from the people involved.
Stories taking shape
Among the stories in development are Melissa L. Youngblood and the creative world of LOLA — Here She Is!, alongside King Cooley and the making of KILN. Each feature will follow its own path, with additional creative profiles joining the collection as the year unfolds.
Through Our Lens
A recurring section will offer COTAVATION’s perspective as a creative collaborator and witness: what we documented, what we observed and what the process taught us. These reflections will sit alongside the featured creatives’ own voices.

This announcement marks the beginning. New features will arrive throughout the remainder of 2026, with photographs, conversations and selected archival material accompanying the stories as they are completed.
